Meet the Maker
Duralex
France
Chances are you may recognize the Duralex brand (they’re sold in over 90 countries around the world). Founded in 1929, they still produce their classic tumblers in La Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin, in the heart of France. But while Duralex is known for iconic glass designs, they’re just as notable for their durability: In 1939, Duralex invented tempered glass—you know, the technique of extra high heat and fast cooling that makes glass twice as strong as the regular stuff (yeah, we didn’t know that either—neat, huh?).

In the Kitchen with the Brooklyn Brew Shop
We cook from scratch a lot here at Food52 -- yogurt, granola, sriracha, ricotta, bread -- but before we met Stephen Valand and Erica Shea from Brooklyn Brew Shop, we'd never considered making our own beer. We made a video with Erica and Stephen all about the beer brewing process -- be sure to check out Brooklyn Brew Shop and our Shop deal. And when your bottles of custom brew are ready, won't you share one with us?
